Venus at Caesars Palace offering topless sunbathing in intimate setting

A few summers ago, topless, aka European, sunbathing was poised to catch on at local pool parties the way live DJs did.

Several pools offered it, hoping that the promise of seeing half-nude women in a setting as ordinary as the hotel swimming pool would lure free-spending tourists to their venues. Most quickly abandoned it after realizing that the idea was better than the reality.

But Venus at Caesars Palace, among the first pools to offer it on the Strip, continues to do so. It's been an important, yet understated, part of the venue's appeal.

In its fourth season, Venus is popular with locals, says Derk Silberstein, vice president of operations for Angel Management Group, the company that manages Venus.

With a capacity of 400, it's smaller than most Vegas dayclubs, but that doesn't mean the experience is, Silberstein says. The pool offers the same kinds of programming and events that you'll find at other dayclubs, just in a more intimate setting.

Jay Sean is scheduled to perform Saturday, while actress Ashley Tisdale will celebrate her birthday at Venus on July 2.

Angel formed a partnership with Caesars and assumed management responsibilities of Venus for the first time this season.

"Overall, our vibe is probably a lot different than if you go out to Rehab or Encore Beach Club. It has a lot more intimate, relaxed feel to it," Silberstein says. "We offer a great, high-end experience."

Venus has 14 cabanas, several daybeds and poolside couches as well as chaise lounges. During the week, chaise lounges are complimentary. Prices for all amenities vary depending on the week and event, but cabanas start around $1,000 while daybeds cost $500 and up. On weekends, chaise lounges have a $100 food and beverage minimum.

Admission for locals is free during the week but sometimes a cover charge is implemented, depending on the event. Hours are from 11 a.m. until dusk daily. Venus is scheduled to be open until October. To make reservations, call 650-5944. All prices and events are subject to change, so always call ahead.
