Boz Scaggs returns to Las Vegas with set list worth remembering

On the road last summer, Boz Scaggs’ set list made the full circle from “Georgia” to “Rainy Night in Georgia.”

Fans know the first one as the soaring second track of his most famous album, “Silk Degrees” from 1976. The second is a warm, bluesy reading of the Brook Benton standard that’s part of last year’s “Memphis,” recorded in three days in the city’s historic soul mecca, Royal Studios.

Scaggs gave fans a generous dose of the album at the Palms last June, and offers a second chance to hear them Saturday at the Eastside Cannery. We’ve seen a lot of the 69-year-old soul man in Las Vegas in recent years, especially if you throw in his “Dukes of September” excursions with Donald Fagen and Michael McDonald, who helped the “Lowdown” and “Lido Shuffle” singer lead us to the door of the disco era in the 1970s.
