Colorful balloons will fill the sky this weekend for Mesquite event

Southern Nevadans can enjoy the majestic world of hot air balloons Saturday and Sunday at the inaugural Mesquite Hot Air Balloon Festival.

Spearheaded by balloon meister Gayle McCoy of Elko, the event is expected to draw 20 participants

Contestants include eight from Nevada; nine from Utah; two from California; and one from Arizona. All events will be held at the CasaBlanca Resort or the CasaBlanca Golf Course. Activities include tethered balloon rides, a balloon glow and a Sunday awards breakfast. Balloons will launch each day at about 6:30 a.m. from the CasaBlanca Golf Course.

The festival in Mesquite is sponsored by Mesquite Gaming along with AmeriGas of St. George, Utah.
