Double the celebration at Mormon Fort park Saturday

The Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historical Park, 500 E. Washington Ave., on Saturday hosts its 12th annual "Nevadaween," a family-oriented event that combines celebrations of Nevada Day and Halloween.

Kids can participate in games, a scavenger hunt and pumpkin decorating. A soup cook-off is set from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visitors also can meet "Mark Twain," watch spinners and weavers demonstrate their skills and participate in candle dipping.

In the spirit of Halloween, costumes are encouraged, and there will be free cake to celebrate the state's 147th birthday.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $1 for people 13 and older, free for children 12 and younger.
