Female impersonators to present retrospective at Onyx

David de Alba and Paul (Lavern) Cummings, who performed at San Francisco's legendary Finocchio female impersonator club, will present a live retrospective and show at 5 p.m. Sunday at Onyx Theater, 953 E. Sahara Ave, Suite 16.

The free event (donations will be accepted) will include DVD presentations of the entertainers' past performances as well as a live performance by Cummings, who will perform as himself.

Both performers will receive awards at the event from Transgender Forum, which has inducted them into the "Gallery of Greats" of female impersonators of the 20th century.

Reservations are suggested by calling 732-7225.

De Alba also has performed in Miami Beach, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Albuquerque, N.M. He sings live, unlike many female illusionists.

Cummings started his career with the touring Jewel Box Revue. His soprano tones and style set a performance standard in the genre.

Eventually he relocated to San Francisco and worked at The Beige Room and Finocchio.
