Grant Griffin’s ‘The Voices’ includes surprises

Grant Griffin is calling his show at the South Point "The Voices," because said voices speak beyond the name recognition of Griffin or his co-stars.

"This is all about great music sung by great voices," says the singer who first performed on the Strip as a singing emcee at the Sahara in 1956.

Years later, Griffin had some luck in the early 2000s packaging orchestral-leaning variety shows for off-Strip customers. Now he's bringing back some of the same voices, but with a more financially conscious six-piece band instead of the orchestra.

Returning with Griffin's own lyric baritone are the operatic stylings of Patricia Welch. Jeneane Marie opened casino shows for the likes of Sammy Davis Jr. and Don Rickles back in the day.

For a nod to more contemporary music there is Gabriella Versace, who brought the rock to shows such as "Erocktica." And there is some dancing from Enrique Lugo, who created compelling choreography for the bygone "Fashionistas."

"Everybody in the show does their own show," Griffin says. "They're all infinitely capable people."

And that includes a few "surprise" performers likely to be called up from the audience. "Voices" in the plural indeed.
