Human models join classic cars at Henderson Super Run classic Car Show

You'd expect car enthusiasts, aficionados of retro culture and lovers of live music to flock to Henderson's Super Run Classic Car Show every year.

But this year's edition of the annual event, which runs through Sunday mostly in Henderson's Water Street District will, for the first time ever, serve another, heretofore underserved, auto show demographic.

Fashionistas, via a fashion show presented at 7 p.m. Saturday by Henderson-based Bettie Page Clothing.

This year marks the 12th year of the event, which is run by Henderson's Cultural Arts and Tourism Department and the Las Vegas Cruisin' Association.

Last year's event drew more than 100,000 people during its four-day run, said city spokeswoman Nicole Johnson.

"It's basically for anybody who's a car enthusiast and who enjoys the art of the car culture," Johnson says. "We have local guys coming from the local (car) clubs, but we've had people come all the way from Hawaii, Texas, all over the country.

"It's amazing how much people love classic cars."

More than 1,000 cars of all eras, makes and models will be displayed by their owners. The entry fee is $65, and prizes will include honors for best crowd pleaser and people's choice.

But even more important than trophies and cash prizes, Johnson says, is "winning bragging rights."

It's impressive to note "all of the detail these guys put into their cars, from the pinstriping to the flame jobs," Johnson says. "I even (last year) saw ... a woodie that had wood paneling and even had a surfboard and a car hop food tray."

Today's events will run from noon to 8 p.m. at the District at Green Valley Ranch, 2240 Village Walk Drive.

On Friday, activities move to the Water Street District at 200 S. Water St. The roster of events includes roaring engine and burnout competitions on Friday and Saturday. "Last year, they had a Pinto with pink smoke," Johnson recalls.

Entertainment will include shows by The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards at 8 p.m. Friday and popular local country act Against the Grain at 8 p.m. Saturday.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, the main stage will be the scene of a fashion show by Bettie Page Clothing, featuring designs inspired by the iconic pinup.

Bettie Page Clothing was launched in 2007 by husband/wife team Jan Glaser and Tatyana Khomyakova. Glaser notes that "there's a big classic car component to what we do" in that the "golden age of the American automobile" corresponds to Page's own era.

Khomyakova, the company's designer, said this weekend's show will feature selections from Bettie Page Clothing's fall line, but also include a few classics, too.

From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, guests can park at the Lake Mead Crossing Plaza on the southeast corner of Water Street and Lake Mead Parkway and take complimentary shuttles to the show. Parking also will be available at the Henderson City Hall and Justice Facility parking garages, the Henderson Convention Center and on surrounding streets.
