Pop go the cake pops at Cosmo’s pop-up chapel

The cake pops are back.

You remember them, those delicious balls of confection that were so good, they inspired people to get fake-married? They went away when The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas’ Pop-Up Wedding Chapel closed last year. But the chapel popped up again Monday in its previous location: on the first floor of the hotel in the space with floor-to-ceiling windows that provide a great view of the Strip.

The chapel is serving up cake pops from the Cupcakery, canned Champagne, party poppers and fake weddings. They’re also doing real weddings, for those of you who are serious about your commitments.

Three packages are available: Hitched in a Hurry, the economical option at $125; On a Whim, $195; and Going to the Chapel for $495. Some packages come with VIP line and drink passes to Marquee Nightclub, which might be enough for some people to consider getting fake-married. You can also purchase a wedding package for your pets.

Hours are from 3 to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. For more details, call 702-698-7640 or visit cosmopolitanlasvegas.com.

Loco coaster

If you’re looking for a crazy adventure, you can’t get much crazier than a roller coaster called El Loco that has negative G drops and some insane turns and rolls.

The Adventuredome at Circus Circus announced the new coaster last week. It will be the first major ride added to the theme park since Disk’O in 2007. Construction on the new ride starts in a few weeks. When it’s finished, El Loco will be the second of its kind in the United States. It’s a crazy roller coaster — hence, the name — that promises to give riders the feeling of flying thanks to the four-person, open design cars.

With 25 attractions, Adventuredome is packed to its pink gills, so something has to come out for El Loco to come in. That something is the Rim Runner flume ride, one of the four original rides from Adventuredome’s first days. But El Loco, with its crazy track, could make people forget the Rim Runner, which is already closed. Riders will ascend 70 feet on El Loco, then drop, backward. The plunge delivers a negative 1.5 vertical G force. And that’s just one of many promised features of El Loco. Look for the new ride to debut in December.

Whitney in wax

Madame Tussauds Las Vegas unveiled a wax figure of Whitney Houston on Monday, the one-year anniversary of her death. Three other Whitney figures were introduced at Madame Tussauds locations around the world this month. In Las Vegas, the Whitney figure is wearing an outfit identical to the one the singer wore in the video “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”
