Six Picks: Charo, Silversun Pickups, ‘The Birds,”Two Spirits,’ Ho’olaule’a Festival, Tiesto

Charo

Admit it. You miss the classical flamenco guitar. Well then, you miss the sequined skirts. The flying hair. The head-to-toe jiggle. You miss the cuchi-cuchi. You miss Charo. See her at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $45-$55; call 797-8055.

Silversun Pickups

The Silversun Pickups pair swelling guitars with a digital pulse, resulting in enveloping alt-rock that's alternately biting and blissed out. See them at 8 p.m. today at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel, 4455 Paradise Road. Tickets are $25.50; call 693-5000.

'The Birds'

As part of the 100th anniversary of Universal Studios, a newly restored version of the Alfred Hitchcock classic "The Birds" is returning to theaters. The one-night event will include a new interview TCM's Robert Osborne conducted with Tippi Hedren as well as on-set stories. See it at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cannery, Colonnade, Orleans, Sam's Town, Santa Fe Station, South Point and Village Square 18.

- Christopher Lawrence

'Two Spirits'

American Indian teen Fred Martinez was nadleehi (Two Spirit), with a male body and a feminine nature - a special gift according to ancient Navajo culture, but it made him one of the youngest hate-crime victims in modern history. Martinez's life - and murder, at age 16 - inspire the award-winning PBS "Independent Lens" documentary "Two Spirits," which will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road; a discussion with filmmaker Lydia Nibley follows the free screening.

- Carol Cling

Ho'olaule'a Festival

A variety of Hawaiian food booths will help establish the chill island vibe during the Prince Jonah Kuhio Ho'olaule'a Festival from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Henderson Events Plaza at 200 S. Water St. The festival, billed as one of the largest Hawaiian and Pacific Islander celebrations on the Ninth Island - that would be Southern Nevada - also will include music, dance and more. Admission is free.

- Heidi Knapp Rinella

Tiesto

At the Wynn-Encore clubs, it's Tiesto Takeover Weekend. The tall Dutch DJ-producer performs today at Surrender. Then Saturday at XS. Then Sunday at Encore Beach Club. You know his songs, such as "Maximum Crazy" (the video was filmed in Vegas), "Feel It In My Bones" (with Tegan & Sara), and his remixes such as Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know." But you also know him because he's a DJ legend.
