Six Picks: Our experts pick their favorites for the week
March 1, 2013 - 9:28 am
Bob Weir
No drum duets today. The Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir pares it down for an acoustic show, with multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Wilson as guest star, at 8 p.m. inside The Pearl at the Palms. Dead shows weren’t known for idle chatter, but this format kind of demands it, and Weir stays in practice on his “Weir Here” broadcasts. Tickets are $42-$62; call 944-3200.

Kreig
Kreig calls New Jersey home but they sound as if they could hail from Norway with icy, relentlessly bleak black metal capable of freezing the blood in your veins. Their lo-fi assault is as raw as a severe burn, and just as threatening to one’s sense of well-being. See the band at 6 p.m. Sunday at Favorites, 4110 S. Maryland Parkway. Tickets are $10; call 796-1776.

‘Walking Dead’
Given the show’s monster ratings, it’s likely only a matter of time before “The Walking Dead: The Movie.” For now, though, fans can see their favorite zombie-avoiders on the big screen, showing never-before-seen footage and answering questions from “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick. See the special event at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Colonnade, Orleans, Sam’s Town, Santa Fe, South Point and Village Square.

First Friday
It’s easy being green — at least at tonight’s First Friday, which gets an early jump on Earth Day at Green Street, which features models of future cities (created by middle-school students), recycled art and the Vegas Roots Community Garden. Elsewhere downtown, you’ll find dozens of artists, DJs, bands and other performers. The Arts District action runs from 5 to 10 p.m., with the epicenter at Casino Center Boulevard and Imperial Avenue; for more info, head to www.firstfridaylasvegas.com.

Whiskey tasting
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day early with an Irish whiskey tasting at Andre’s at the Monte Carlo. The tasting will include Connemara 12-year Single Malt Scotch, Knappogue 17-year Single Malt and Tyrconnell 10-year sherry and 10-year Port. You can taste them all from 9 to 11 p.m. Wednesday for $25 in advance, $35 at the door if any tickets remain. To reserve, call 798-7151.

Big Boi
Antwan “Big Boi” Patton will perform tonight at the Bank nightclub in the Bellagio. He was half of the genius Outkast duo. Now he’s touring to promote his new acclaimed solo album, “Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors.”
