Strip Tips: Bellagio unveils winter display

Kick off the holiday season with a true Las Vegas tradition from 4 to 5 p.m. today at the Bellagio Conservatory's tree-lighting ceremony.

Every year, the conservatory unveils a winter display featuring holiday symbols including a giant tree. This year, more than 2,500 ornaments and 13,500 white light-emitting diode lights adorn a 45-foot-tall Shasta fir tree, the centerpiece of the display. Oversized toy soldiers; faux penguins; three topiary polar bears made of 35,000 white carnations; electric trains; and a floral holiday card are among this year's highlights.

For the first time, the Bellagio's pastry team created a gingerbread village. Another first: Carolers will stroll through the conservatory performing holiday songs from 4 to 5 p.m. the week leading up to Dec. 25. Harpists also will perform from 5 to 6 p.m. daily. The winter display, which is on exhibit through Jan. 5, is free and open to the public.

Charity bracelet

The Chippendales are battling childhood hunger and world poverty by wearing a charity bracelet to show their support of Hard Rock International's "Imagine There's No Hunger," a global campaign to fight worldwide poverty. Fans can show their support by donating money to the cause at one of the local Hard Rock Cafes or by visiting whyhunger.org. In return, you will receive the "Imagine There's No Hunger" bracelet worn by the famous dancers. You can also donate by texting the word "IMAGINE" to 50555. A portion of the money raised will benefit those directly affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Rodeo grub

Eat like a cowboy during National Finals Rodeo Dec. 6 through Dec. 15. Tender Steak and Seafood at the Luxor will be offering rodeo-inspired meals including the Tomahawk Chop (30 ounce rib-eye steak) and a flight of Crown Royal for $95 per person. If you want to try something a little different, go with the Game Meat Tasting Platter with rib-eye, elk medallion and wild boar spare ribs ($55 per person).
