Strip Tips: Discounts and cheap drinks

This week on the Strip, donate to charity and get your drink on.

Donate change

Throw your loose change into the fountains at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort this month and you could help schoolchildren. Throughout May, Miracle Mile is donating all of the money from the water fountains to Communities in Schools of Nevada. This includes change thrown into the water fountain and the indoor rainstorm attraction. Every few weeks, management collects the fountain money and donates it to a different charity. Previous donations have exceeded $1,000.

Teacher discount

In keeping with the education theme, Miracle Mile is extending dining and entertainment discounts to Clark County School District teachers through May. Eleven restaurants are offering special entree prices and discounts on dining bills. "VEGAS! The Show" and "V The Ultimate Variety Show" are giving teachers a free general admission or VIP ticket with the purchase of a second ticket. Visit miraclemileshopslv.com/teacher_appreciation/ for a list of restaurants and deals.

Cheap drinks

Locals, take Friday off because PBR Rock Bar is going to give you $1 drinks Thursday night. From 9 p.m. to midnight (starting May 24), locals with Nevada ID can have whatever they want to drink for $1. It's a pre-Memorial Day weekend celebration. It's also Ladies Night at PBR Rock Bar in Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort, and all women are eligible for the promotion. For more information, call 750-1685 or visit pbrrockbar.com.

Question

If you have any word on the IP Race & Sports Book relocating I'd be one of many who're really interested in knowing. We've heard they're moving it downstairs to the main floor somewhere/somehow. Our little group has been gathering there for 20 years now. - RJ from Orange County, Calif.

The Imperial Palace will see some changes as a result of Caesars Entertainment's Linq Project, the retail, hotel and observation wheel project slated to open on the Strip in 2013. The official word is that O'Shea's will be put somewhere inside Imperial Palace, while the IP will receive cosmetic upgrades to several parts of the hotel and casino. That could involve the sports book. The name will probably change, as Caesars is losing the rights to the Imperial Palace name. A company spokeswoman said, "at this time, the (IP's sports book) is not relocating." Check back for future updates.
