Strip Tips: Dream along with pageant hopefuls

This is kind of a dreamy week on the Strip with beauty contestants in town, discounts to the show "Le Reve -- The Dream" and a chance to see the wax version of the King of Rock and Roll.

Meet-and-greet

Miss America contestants, all 53 of them, will be meeting and greeting the public at Fashion Show mall, 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Saturday at 6 p.m. This will be your best chance to find out why there are 53 contestants when the United States actually has 50 states. Address that question to Miss Virgin Islands, Miss Puerto Rico or Miss District of Columbia. The women will participate in a runway presentation in the Great Hall at 6 p.m. and sign autographs at 7 p.m.

'Le Reve' discount

In honor of its 3,000th show, "Le Reve -- The Dream" at Wynn Las Vegas is offering a ticket special to locals through Jan. 31. Buy one premium ticket and receive a second ticket for only $30. "Premium" tickets cost about $129, plus tax and fees. Order your tickets by phone at 770-9966 or online at wynnlasvegas.com and mention the code: "three thousand." You must present valid Nevada ID at the box office when you pick up your tickets.

Elvis turning 77

Elvis Presley fans may need to sit down for this one. If the King of Rock and Roll were alive, he would be 77 years old Sunday. Shocking, right? It's hard to believe that much time has passed since he died. Those 34 years just flew by. If the fact that you're getting older leaves you all shook up, maybe a freebie will make you feel better. On Sunday, the first 77 people who visit Madame Tussauds at The Venetian will get in free. You can make a pilgrimage to visit Elvis' wax figure. The museum opens at 10 a.m., but you may want to get there early to stand in line. For more information, call 862-7800 or visit online at madametussauds.com/lasvegas.

Question

"I heard Las Vegas has its own walk of fame, like the one in Hollywood. Is that true?" J.M., Las Vegas

Yes, it is true. The Las Vegas Walk of Stars is in various places on the Strip between Sahara Avenue and Russell Road and a few casinos around town. To date, more than 50 stars have been dedicated to noteworthy people associated with Las Vegas. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Wayne Newton and Frank Marino are among the celebrities who have had stars installed in their honor. Each star costs about $20,000, and they're made of Terraza stone. Each weighs about 180 pounds.
