Strip Tips: From poker to penguins

If St. Patrick's Day is not your thing, we've got a few activities you might be interested in. They involve a social media scavenger hunt, masked dancers, poker and penguins.

Mingle with Porrino

Angel Porrino of E!'s "Holly's World" and "Absinthe" at Caesars Palace will make an appearance at Rockhouse Bar and Nightclub in front of Imperial Palace at 5 p.m. today. She'll be a special guest on the radio show "On Air with Robert & CC" but she will also mingle with fans. During the show, which airs live on Hook Jaw Net Radio (hookjawnetradio.com), guests can buy two-for-one drinks and $5 shots. Call 731-9683 for more information.

Poker series

If you need a poker tourney fix, you have 36 chances to get one through April 2. Caesars Palace kicked off its annual Hoops Hold'em Poker Series on Wednesday to coincide with the NCAA basketball tournament. Poker tournament buy-ins range from $130 to $560 for the three-day championship event March 31. A seniors game with $130 buy-in is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 30.

Search and find

Every Thursday through March, Jabbawockeez fans will have the chance to win one of the dance group's famous masks. They will be hidden throughout the Monte Carlo and clues to their whereabouts will be sent out via social media. So Twitter users should follow @montecarlovegas or find the hotel on Facebook and then scour those sites throughout the month.

Question

C.L. from North Las Vegas writes: "Whatever happened to them penguins at the Flamingo? Are they coming back?"

The African penguins went to the Dallas Zoo in April 2006 and they're not coming back. Twelve of the critters lived at the Flamingo's Wildlife Habitat since 1995, when they were acquired from the Honolulu Zoo. The hotel took part in the Species Survival Plan for the African penguin, which was an effort to protect their numbers. In 2010, the birds were listed as endangered by the U.S. Endangered Species Act. The population has dwindled from millions to only about 170,000 African penguins left in the world.

Why the penguins no longer live at the Flamingo I don't know. The hotel did not return messages before deadline. But, you can probably find a penguin on the Strip. There's a guy who dresses in a penguin costume and hangs out on the boulevard, posing for pictures. The Flamingo's wildlife habitat is still open and there are lots of birds and fish to see. Some baby pelicans are expected to arrive later this year.
