Strip Tips: Lollipops, artifacts, tacos and more

National holidays, tacos, history and hot women are on this week's Strip Tips menu.

Lollipop Day

Today is National Lollipop Day and you can celebrate by buying what might be the world's most expensive sucker. The Couture Pop from the Sugar Factory normally retails for $25 while some of the less-blingy options cost $22. Through Sunday, it will be discounted 15 percent. Couture Pops never go on sale but National Lollipop Day is a major holiday for the candy shop. And if you think an average Dum Dum or Blow Pop is a worthy substitute, think again. Couture Pops are the official suckers of celebrities. Katy Perry, Rihanna and other celebs have been photographed on the red carpet holding Couture Pops. Britney Spears designed a couple for the Sugar Factory's signature line of lollys. They come in a variety of flavors with a variety of sequined handles. There are no sticks in these lollipops and that's what makes them so special. Sugar Factory has locations in The Mirage, Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort, MGM Grand and Paris Las Vegas.

Splashy entrance

Angel Porrino, a cast member of "Absinthe" at Caesars Palace, will make a special appearance from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Flamingo's GO Pool. Guests will have the chance to meet and pose for photos with her. Guests can also participate in special contests for the chance to win tickets to the show. Stars from Absinthe and "Peepshow" at Planet Hollywood Resort will make appearances throughout the summer. For information about GO Pool cover charges, call 733-3111.

New artifacts

History buffs, it's time to revisit "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition" at Luxor. New artifacts were installed Thursday and they've never been displayed publicly before. Among the new items to check out are a pair of long cotton underwear, a polishing cloth, and two postcards from Tonopah that were mailed to Howard Irwin and Henry Sutehall. Irwin and Sutehall were best friends who were on their way home after traveling the world for a year. Irwin never made it aboard the ship, though his luggage did. Sutehall was a victim of the sinking. Tickets to the attraction range from $24 to $32. Call 262-4400 for more information.

Taco Tuesdays

Cabo Wabo Cantina inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort is introducing Taco Tuesdays for the late-night crowd. Starting July 24, from 10 p.m. to midnight, you can get chicken and steak tacos for $2 each. Two-for-one house margaritas will also be available. Locals who show a valid ID get 10 percent off their total bill. Call 385-2226 for more information.

Question

What's the tallest building on the Strip?

Standing at 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere tower is the tallest structure in Las Vegas. But technically, it's not a building, it's an observation tower. And technically, it's not on the Strip. It's just north of Sahara Avenue, which is considered the northern boundary of the Strip.
