Teen drama ‘The O.C.’ to be made into musical

LOS ANGELES — Seth, Summer, Ryan and Marissa will reunite through song and dance in a musical version of seminal mid-2000s teen drama “The O.C.”

A product of the same team behind “Cruel Intentions: The Musical,” “The O.C.” musical will be adapted and directed by Jordan Ross, with Lindsey Rosin producing. The one-night-only event will go down in Los Angeles on August 30.

At this point, only the roles of Luke Ward, Kirsten Cohen and Josh Schwartz have been cast. That’s right: the show’s creator will be a character in this musical, although not a singing one.

Schwartz’s series ran on the CW from 2003 to 2007 and revolved around a herd of wealthy, dramatic teenagers living in Orange County, Calif. The series is responsible for launching the careers of Adam Brody, Rachel Bilson and Mischa Barton. Tate Donovan, Peter Gallagher, Kelly Rowan and Ben McKenzie also starred.

News of the Newport Beach reunion comes on the heels of the confirmation that a “Clueless” musical is also in development.

Will “Gossip Girl” be next?
