National Night Out party planned

Education and interaction make the National Night Out Block Party at Providence a fun way for the public to meet their law enforcement and community safety partners. The free event promotes crime prevention awareness, neighborhood spirit and unity, and community-law enforcement partnerships. It will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Knickerbocker Park in the Providence Master Planned Community in northwest Las Vegas.

"The National Night Out Block Party at Providence provides a great opportunity for everyone to meet first responders and learn how easy and important it is to come together for community-building and neighborhood safety," said Chris DeLong, Providence Master Homeowners Association community manager. "We're pleased to host this forum for the entire community, and there will be something for the whole family."

Participants include the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, Nevada Highway Patrol, ADT and other first responders and community groups. They will feature interactive and educational activities, demonstrations, booths and emergency response equipment, including a helicopter for kids to see, touch and explore. A large-scale version of the classic Red Light-Green Light game will be staged to help children learn traffic safety basics as they make their way to the finish line.

Target is providing free popsicles and water, and food truck options for purchase include World's Best Corndogs, Engine One Pizza and Curbside Café. P.D., the Providence dog mascot, will be on hand to greet guests, and well-behaved leashed pets are welcome.

Attendees also can enjoy Knickerbocker Park amenities. They include tot lots, swing set, small and large dog areas, splash pad, jogging path with exercise stations, picnic areas, and a softball field and multiuse event field for soccer and volleyball, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The 15-acre park is at 10695 Dorrell Lane, north of the I-215 Beltway and Hualapai Way exit.

The annual National Night Out Block Party at Providence is one of largest events of its kind in the northwest area. It is presented by the Providence Master Homeowners Association and Providence Master Planned Community. For information, call 702-216-2020.

National Night Out events are held the first Tuesday in August and involve more than 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

Before the event, attendees are invited to tour the 1,200-acre master plan and its neighborhoods by nationally recognized homebuilder partners, including Lennar, Pardee, Richmond American Homes, Ryland Homes, Summit Homes and Woodside Homes.

Providence remains one of the best-selling master-planned communities in Nevada and the country. It encompasses the traditions of small town America and features wide tree-lined boulevards, trails and three parks. Providence is minutes from schools, shopping, dining and I-215 and U.S. Highway 95 access, and close to Nellis and Creech Air Force bases.
