Shifting from Hawaii to Summerlin

When Tyler Hollingsworth had an opportunity to make a career jump, it meant leaving paradise — literally. Tyler, along with wife, Katie, and children, Ryan, 6, and Ava, 9, lived on the Hawaiian island of Oahu for more than two years and considered the nearby beach their happy place.

Katie, who made the move begrudgingly, has once again found paradise. This time, it’s in the Estrella neighborhood by Pulte Homes in The Paseos village of Summerlin.

“I had a really hard adjustment from Hawaii to Las Vegas for obvious reasons, like the vast differences in climate and culture,” Katie said. “But once I walked in the Parklane model, it was love at first sight. After renting for a while and an extensive home search, we found the perfect house and location for our family here at Estrella. I love our interior and exterior view from every angle, and I especially appreciate the open floor plan and great room which allows our family to engage in conversation and be together, no matter what we are all doing. From the kitchen, I can watch the kids swim in the pool or talk to them as they play games and watch TV in the family room.”

Katie and the kids, who are big fans of Downtown Summerlin, enjoy dining at the restaurants, shopping at Trader Joe’s, Nordstrom Rack and going to the movies.

“And our location within our neighborhood couldn’t be better,” she said. “A new elementary school and community park are under construction near our neighborhood, adding to the convenience and appeal of our new happy place.”

Katie also credits Pulte’s staff at Estrella as serving as the family’s unofficial welcome committee. “Both our sales agent and the project superintendent became like family,” she said. “They made the process of buying a home easy from start to finish. I still want to have them over for dinner!”

Estrella is one of 12 new neighborhoods within The Paseos village, which boasts a higher elevation and is nestled against one of Southern Nevada’s most stunning geographic landmarks, Red Rock National Conservation Area. As a result, many homes in Estrella offer great views of Red Rock Canyon to the west, and to the east, the entire valley, including the Las Vegas Strip.

Homes at Estrella include single- and two-story floor plans with front-yard landscaping included. They range from 2,058 to 2,500 square feet and are priced from $348,880 to $507,880. Estrella’s Camelia, Saffron and Modena two-story floor plans include three or four bedrooms with 2½ baths. Notable design elements include entry foyers, separate dens, lofts and first-floor master suites. Elegant upgrades include tray ceilings and a large balcony from the master bedroom.

The single-story Triesta, Verona and Parklane floor plans range from 2,156 to 2,455 square feet. They include two or three bedrooms, 2½ baths and feature open floor plans with 10-foot ceiling heights.

Formal dining room, courtyard, covered loggia and three-car tandem garage are offered in these homes. Options include fourth and fifth bedrooms, generous walk-in closet in lieu of third car-tandem parking space and master bedroom extensions that add square footage to the home.

All Estrella homes include Pulte’s signature Life Tested living spaces and come standard with several significant energy-saving features. These include 15 SEER-rated air-conditioning systems, Low-E dual pane windows with vinyl frames, water-efficient toilets, 95 percent energy efficient gas furnace, Rheem tankless water heater and digital programmable thermostat. Carbon monoxide detectors are also standard.

The Paseos village includes robust amenities, such as the developing climbing-adventure-themed, 14-acre Fox Hill Park, along with a new public elementary school, both slated to open in 2017. Residents can already enjoy the 12-acre Paseos Park with children’s play area, splash pad, basketball courts, picnic ramadas and the newly opened Vistas Community Center and pool in the adjacent village.

Just minutes from the 215 Beltway, The Paseos offers access to McCarran International Airport, the Strip and Downtown Summerlin, the 106-acre shopping, dining and entertainment destination in the heart of the master-planned community.
