Midcentury is in again

Pardee unveiled midcentury modern homes at its newest community, Escala, in the 8,500-home master-planned community of Inspirada in Henderson.

“It’s an authentic Las Vegas style that was widely used in the 1950s and 1960s,” said Pardee Southern Nevada Division President Klif Andrews. “It’s an exciting look that’s very popular right now especially with furniture designers.”

Andrews added that the movie “Casino” and television show “Mad Men” have midcentury modern styles on display.

“It’s a really authentic style,” he said. “And Las Vegas doesn’t have a lot of authentic architecture.”

Escala boasts two single-story and two two-story floor plans.

Single-story homes have three bedrooms and 2½ baths along with a dining room, great room, three-car garage and options for an office, wine room and GenSmart Suite, a bedroom, private bath, walk-in closet and a kitchenette with a sink, built-in microwave and under-counter refrigerator.

“It’s a feature that makes the space more independent of the rest of the house,” Andrews said of the GenSmart Suite kitchenette. “You’re able to refrigerate beverages, microwave something and have access to a sink, too.”

The two-story floor plans have three to five bedrooms, 3½ baths, great room, lounge, dining room and three-car garage with options for a loft, office and GenSmart Suite.

Homes in Escala are simply styled with lots of glass features throughout, Andrews said.

“It’s real fresh looking,” he said. “The simple styling is one of the most popular trends right now.”

Andrews added that ceilings play an important role in Escala homes.

“The way we incorporated all kinds of ceilings is one of the main highlights,” he said. “We used pitched ceilings and different ceiling heights throughout areas in the home.” Buyers, Andrews said, are gravitating towards the midcentury modern style of Escala.

“They love it and think it’s very cool,” he said. “Some of them have grown up around midcentury modern homes here, in California, Florida and Texas. It was a fun style that people are familiar with.” Home prices start in $500,000 range.

Pardee is one of four builders in Inspirada, which has 85 acres of planned Henderson parks as well as volleyball, basketball, bocce ball and tennis courts, pools, soccer/multiuse sports fields and barbecue and picnic areas.

The homebuilder will continue the midcentury modern style at its Montero community, which will feature three to five bedroom and two to four bath layouts when it opens in June in Inspirada.
