4-year-old Mississippi boy, his dog rescued after falling down 23-foot well

A 4-year-old Mississippi boy and his dog were rescued Monday after falling into a well, authorities said.

The two spent about three hours 25 feet down in the well, Clifford Galey, civil defense director for Lincoln County, Mississippi, told CNN.

The child fell about 5 p.m. local time, he said, adding that "several rescue teams" were involved in the rescue. Neither the boy nor the dog appeared to have serious injuries from the ordeal.

The Clarion-Ledger newspaper reported the two were lifted with a pulley system.

Lincoln County is in southwest Mississippi.
