Centers offer variety of classes for all ages this summer

The Performing Arts Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services offers dozens of classes for all ages at four cultural arts facilities.
Students can learn how to throw a pot or try Chinese brush calligraphy.

Register Saturday through May 24 for classes at Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North, and West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Classes are between seven and 10 weeks long and begin May 29.
Registration continues through May 31 at Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St., and East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. The six-week session begins June 5.
Charleston Heights Arts Center offers ballet, ballroom, Latin club, salsa, tango or swing group classes; private dance, piano and voice lessons; Pilates; and an actors' workshop for ages 10 to 12. Call 229-6383 for information.
Several classes at East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center are taught in English and Spanish, including ballet folklorico, salsa and world dance; computers; and group and private music lessons. The center also offers visual arts classes, including cartooning for ages 10 to 15, Chinese calligraphy, youth clay art, pottery, ceramics and weaving. Call 229-1515 for details.
Reed Whipple Cultural Center's classes include pottery; youth ceramics; ballet, hip-hop and hula; private flute, guitar, piano, saxophone and voice lessons; and drama for children and teens. Call further details, call 229-6211.
West Las Vegas Arts Center offers sewing/crafts, art, African dance and drum, ballet, hip-hop, tap, tae kwon do, guitar, piano, music production and studio engineering. On Saturday mornings, children may enroll in a three-hour block of classes for a discounted price. Call 229-4800 for information.
