ONE SMART OUTFIT

Is Sarah Jessica Parker a style maven or did she just play one on television? The actress, who played Carrie Bradshaw on "Sex and the City" for six seasons makes us ask ourselves that question every time she makes a public appearance. Is her impeccable flavor for fashion a result of all that exposure to Patricia Field's expertise, the work of her own stylist or just a God-given gift? Let's take a closer look.
For a recent screening of "Smart People," in which Parker stars, she donned an outfit that sang to us in the key of Carrie. Her midnight blue, hip-skimming blouse and black cigarette pants -- on their own -- don't command notice. But the hot pink cropped blazer and canary yellow feather tickling its lapel tilts our heads with curiosity, much the same way Bradshaw's tutu did in the opening credits of each episode. Plus, the feather conjures memories of her giant corsage that we never bored of seeing. Is there a gold-plated necklace under that blouse that reads Sarah Jessica, too?
The rest of Parker's ensemble bears no resemblance to the fictional sex columnist's style. The leopard print clutch acts as a surprising complement, but it isn't funky -- or is that ridiculous? -- enough to have made the wardrobe cut for Carrie. The cap-toe pumps could go either way. Of course, Parker has never made a secret of her love for shoes (she claims just the smell of the leather invokes a natural high) and neither did Bradshaw, whose answering machine told callers that she was out "shoe shopping."
While we continue to scratch our heads over Parker's fashion merits, we'd like to extend you the opportunity to mimic them. Here are six pieces that make one killer look.
