Resorting to Fashion
Resort collections started as a means for designers to dress customers during post-holidays vacations. The new spring lines hadn't come out yet and the old ones were just that, old. In order to make everyone happy -- the customers with new clothes and the designers with new profits -- high fashion labels produced fabrics that packed well and designs that stood out on a yacht.
Today, the collections have expanded to more of a transitional wardrobe. Rather than intended solely for weeklong stays in the French Riviera, the clothes are much more functional for those in between the seasons stages.
