Summer Daze
July 13, 2007 - 9:00 pm
The air may feel like you've just stuck your head in an oven, but in Las Vegas we like to call it summer. In case the triple-digit high temperatures didn't clue you in, the swelter has arrived. And if you have to brave it, we insist that you do it in style. Take a look at the trends we've gathered for the season with the help of Elle fashion market and accessories director Joe Berean. Each will make you the hottest thing this summer, not the weather.
NEON LIGHTS
"The biggest color for summer is definitely white," Berean said. "It works for everyone, but pops of neon are big, too." Pair white with flashes of neon, such as this bright green burst from Ella Moss and the white patent leather pieces, for a summer statement.
coming up roses
Floral prints, such as this Tracy Reese bubble skirt dress, may inspire thoughts of drapery when on the hanger, but slip into it and you transform into a garden in full bloom. Give the floral prints a sincere try before snubbing them.
Tracy Reese floral dress, $430, Mojitos at the Wynn Las Vegas; Michael Kors espadrilles, $215, and Kenneth Jay Lane gold cocktail ring, $75, both available at Intermix; chain drop earrings, $60, Vasari
JUMP STREET
Get a jump on the jumpers this season; the one-piece garments are just as convenient as they are cute. This Rachel Pally version can take you to Tao Beach or Pure Nightclub depending on the accessories. These gladiator platforms and the tiger's eye chain scream night on the town.
Rachel Pally Julia jumper, $185, C-level; Tory Burch multi-colored Henley, $350, Scoop NYC; Lucilla Pessoa gladiator platforms, $295, Tom Ford square framed sunglasses, $460, and Kenneth Jay Lane amber chain link belt (used as a necklace), $120, all available at Intermix; leather chain bracelets, $12, Vasari
GET SHORTY
Exercise caution with the shorts trend. "You have to figure out what works for your body," Berean said. "Cuff and safari styles are usually safe." If having your legs in the spotlight makes you nervous, throw a tunic, such as this one from Tory Burch, on top to balance things out.
Tory Burch tunic, $395, Alice + Olivia shorts, $187, and Christian Louboutin espadrille wedges, $295, all available at Saks Fifth Avenue; Marc Jacobs red canvas tote, $895, Marc Jacobs; long rope and wooden necklace, $25, Vasari
ALL IN THE DETAILS
"Here's a great tip: Take all kinds of necklaces, wooden and gold chains, and wear them with a plain white shirt and khaki shorts. It's a great personal style element," Berean said. Select a T-shirt with a burnout effect, add an impossibly big cocktail ring and you have officially transformed simple to stunning.
V-neck with burnout effect, $73, Fashionista khaki Bermuda shorts, $148, chunky wooden beaded necklace, $18, Cruzazul wood horn necklace, $125, and beaded brown necklace, $25, all available at Vasari; Shay double chain necklace, $143, C-level; Giuseppe Zanotti suede platforms, $550, Giuseppe Zanotti; Grazia Vozza shell pearl cocktail ring, $975, and Nancy Gonzalez camel tote, $2,200, both available at Bags, Belts & Baubles
