HealthCare Partners chosen for new Medicare initiative

HealthCare Partners of Nevada has been selected to participate in the Pioneer Accountable Care Organization model, a new initiative sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Innovation Center.

HealthCare Partners of Nevada will work with CMS to provide Medicare beneficiaries with care while reducing expenses, it said it in a statement.

"We are pleased to be part of such an important initiative," said Sherif Abdou, M.D., HealthCare Partners of Nevada president and chief executive officer. "The HealthCare Partners of Nevada mission is to support our physicians to excel in the healing arts so they can improve the health and lives of patients in the greater Las Vegas area."

The model is designed to encourage the development of ACOs, groups of doctors and other health care providers who work together to provide patient care.

Unlike a managed care plan, Medicare beneficiaries will not be locked into a restricted panel of providers. The ACO model is not a health plan or managed care plan. Under the ACO model, beneficiaries seeing doctors participating in an ACO will maintain the ability to see any doctor or health care provider, as well as the full benefits associated with traditional Medicare.
