Baby, oh baby

Whether your child is a rough and tumble adventurer, a tried and true NASCAR fan or in love with Winnie the Pooh, Delta Children's Products can help you decorate his or her bedroom in style.

Created specifically for infants, toddlers and tweens, Delta's furnishings are sized proportionately for younger users and, in some cases, designed to grow along with the child.

Showcasing its licensed collections at the recent home-furnishings trade show at the World Market Center, Delta unveiled its newest products, including a Jeep bedroom set.

Looking much like the versatile vehicle without wheels, the twin- or full-size bed comes complete with a footboard that resembles the automobile's trademark grille, a headboard that looks like the windshield and underbed storage and dressers with pulls that duplicate door handles.

Available in a natural and dark cherry finish, the Jeep collection includes five pieces, said Butch Waggoner of Delta.

Also shown at the furniture market were new Disney collections featuring Hannah Montana and "High School Musical," as well as the Princess collection that features a variety of cradles, cribs and a changing table/dresser.

Other licensed collections include NASCAR, Nickelodeon, Mattel and Hasbro favorites.

New to the NASCAR line are folding tables and chairs decked out with the colors and logos from drivers Jimmie Johnson, No. 48; Tony Stewart, No. 20; and Jeff Gordon, No. 24. The sets retail for about $35 and were expected to be in stores this spring.

Waggoner also showed off a new contemporary collection that features a crib that can be disassembled and reconfigured as a bookcase and dresser.

Also aimed at those favoring contemporary style is the new Dots collection. Featuring a rocking bassinet, deluxe play yard and stowaway high chair, the collection combines modern pastels with a designer polka dot motif in neutral shades of creams, browns, blues and pinks.

The new Sweet Pea Tahoe line features a standard crib, convertible crib, cradle, changing table, five-drawer dresser, bookshelf, combo chest and toy box. Crafted in solid hardwood and wood veneers, the collection combines scalloped lines and simple details for a distinctive and stylish look.

The standard crib converts from a crib to a toddler bed to a toddler daybed, while the convertible crib, with its subtle arches and paneled side, adds the ability to transform into a full-sized headboard and love seat. The convertible crib also features a lower two-section drawer for storage.

In collaboration with Simmons Juvenile Furniture, the New York-based manufacturer unveiled four new bedroom collections. According to Keith Bluestein of Delta, all of the furnishings in the collections have soft, rounded corners as well as offer features such as the ability to grow with the child and deep, fully extendable drawers.

Among the introductions is the New London collection. Offered in a heirloom honey or French roast finish, the collection is highlighted by the Crib N' More, four-drawer dresser and changing table, and three-drawer chest. The crib features a compact design and is ideal for smaller spaces.

As with Delta's standard crib, the Crib N' More has a three-position mattress support that easily adjusts into a toddler bed or daybed. It also offers the option of using the front and back of the crib as a full-size headboard and footboard.

Bluestein said the pieces retail from $399 to $599.

Gaining control over this annual weed is not easy to do

To make sure it doesn’t return you have to interrupt the seed-to-flowering-plant cycle at least for a couple of years and fill the voids with something competitive.

Why did my bird of paradise plants quit blooming?

They were in bloom when we planted them five or six years ago, and they bloomed the following year as well. But they have not bloomed again.
