Center will celebrate best of Italian design

Italian design and its influence on home fashions will be celebrated by Las Vegas Design Center at World Market Center Las Vegas when it hosts "Veni Vidi Vendi: A Celebration of Italian Design" Wednesday and Thursday.

The event is open to design professionals and guests and will feature a one-of-a-kind Italian furniture and photography exhibition complemented by several presentations spotlighting the latest in contemporary design.

The American debut of Design Italiano is the core of the two-day celebration. The exclusive furniture and photography exhibit was developed in partnership with Fiera Milano and showcases the best of Italian furniture design from 1957-2007, with memorable pieces from B&B Italia, Minotti, Giorgetti and 25 other elite manufacturers. The exhibit was unveiled during the recent home-furnishings trade show at the facility and Las Vegas will be its only U.S. destination.

"Las Vegas Design Center embraces great design from around the world and bringing to the U.S. home interiors which they would otherwise need to travel great distance to experience," said Bob Maricich, president and chief executive officer of World Market Center Las Vegas.

"During the course of our explorations around the world, we have spent considerable time with the top global furniture and furnishings designers in Italy. Well-designed furnishings are very much part of the Italian lifestyle and culture -- free, creative and pure with unparalleled quality -- very much pieces of art as well as items with a purpose. The unique pieces contained in the museum-quality exhibition laid the path for 20th and 21st century contemporary design and will be sure to inspire attendees," Maricich said.

In addition to a number of educational events, participants will see what's new and hot from Italian trend setters Excelsior Designs, Bontempi, DellaRobbia, Sagsa by Abbyson, Gruppo Sintesi and White Orchid.

Reservations are requested and can be made by e-mailing italian@lvdc.com. Those making reservations will be entered into a drawing for a $1,000 shopping spree at The Shoppes at the Palazzo.

Gaining control over this annual weed is not easy to do

To make sure it doesn’t return you have to interrupt the seed-to-flowering-plant cycle at least for a couple of years and fill the voids with something competitive.

Why did my bird of paradise plants quit blooming?

They were in bloom when we planted them five or six years ago, and they bloomed the following year as well. But they have not bloomed again.
