Design Center sample sale concludes today

Las Vegas Design Center at World Market Center Las Vegas will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today for a special sample sale that benefits three local charities.

The two-day sale, which concludes today, supports Habitat for Humanity, Nevada AIDS Project and Opportunity Village. The California/Central Nevada chapter of American Society of Interior Designers hosts the event and provides professional designers to consult with shoppers.

A variety of showrooms on the lower floors of Buildings A, B and C will offer items such as sofas, chairs, bedroom sets, dining sets, tables, area rugs, lighting, accessories, lamps, wall art, paintings, frames, prints and mirrors.

Cash, Visa, MasterCard and Discover will be the only acceptable forms of payment for purchases. No checks will be accepted. Services will be available to arrange deliveries for a fee to shoppers buying large merchandise.

Admission is $10 per person and includes a ticket to Opportunity Village's Magical Forest. In addition, admission includes the chance to win one-of-a-kind design center giveaways. Complimentary self-parking will be available and valet parking will be available for a $10 fee.

Strollers are not permitted inside the showrooms; a stroller check will be available.

Architects recognize top design projects

The American Institute of Architects, Nevada recently recognized exceptional design accomplishments of some of the state's top architects through its Nevada Design Awards program.

The annual program recognizes achievement of the highest standards of design excellence and quality in six categories.

Assemblagestudio of Las Vegas received the Interior Environments Award for its work on Nalani, a pain management clinic in Henderson. This marks the 26th design excellence honor the firm has won during the past 12 years from AIA Nevada. The firm has received at least one award in each of the past 12 years and is the only one in the state to receive an AIA Nevada design excellence award in each year of the its existence.

Other winners were Carpenter Sellers Associates, Regional and Urban Design Award for Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy; KGA Architecture, Architecture Award for the Historic 5th Street School Renovation; Hawkins and Associates, Architecture and Collaborative Achievement awards for Block Party 4 and Urban Infill -- Block Party, respectively; and Cathexes LLC, Collaborative Achievement Award for McCarran Ranch Shade Structure.

More than 60 projects, ranging from private residences to public buildings and businesses, were submitted for the awards program.
