Flexa to collect PJs for children in need
Flexa, an environmentally conscious Denmark-based kids furniture store, is holding a pajama drive during the holiday season to benefit children in need.
From now through Dec. 21, customers can drop off brand-new pajamas in sizes for infants through teens at the store located at Town Square Las Vegas. The pajamas will be distributed before Christmas to children who receive care at Child Haven.
"Many children live for extended periods of time at Child Haven and outgrow their clothes during their stay there," said Christian Egly, managing director of the U.S.-based Flexa Furniture stores. "We're hoping to gather as many new pajamas as possible to give to these well-deserving children who have experienced hardships in their lives."
Child Haven, a part of the Clark County Department of Family Services, provides temporary care and treatment for abused, neglected and abandoned children between 3 days to 17 years of age.
Flexa plans to support the nonprofit with various fundraising events and activities throughout the year.
Each customer who donates a pair of pajamas will receive a complimentary plush toy.
Flexa offers solid-wood, modular beds and accessories for toddlers to teens that are colorful, functional and flexible. The furniture is made from sustainable wood from a Russian forest, owned by the company.
The store is open from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. For more information call 877-FLEXA-LV (353-9258) or visit www.FLEXAfurniture.com.

Noted designer Varney to visit design center
Carlton Varney, one of the best-known interior and restoration designers, will be the featured guest Friday during First Friday at the Las Vegas Design Center at World Market Center Las Vegas.
He will speak from 10-11:30 a.m. in the third-floor seminar room of Building C at the design center, 475 S. Grand Central Parkway. The event is open to interior designers and other trade professionals.
Varney is president of New York-based Dorothy Draper & Co. Inc., one of the oldest established interior design firms in the United States. The firm is named after the company's founder who was one of the doyennes of interior design from the 1920s to the 1960s. Continuing Draper's tradition, his design philosophy stresses the use of bright colors and the rejection of all that is impractical, uncomfortable and drab.
"I will speak about decorating around your personality and how you can find who you are in the rooms in which you live," he said.
Varney also plans to share his history, recount stories about celebrity clients, offer design tips and cover the topic of design as a business.
Varney has decorated and restored hotels and resorts all over the world, including Adare Manor, Dromoland and Ashford Castles in Ireland; The Waldorf Towers and Plaza Hotel in New York; and The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla. He also was the design consultant to the Carter Presidential Library and numerous White House functions.
Following his presentation, Varney and his colleague, Brinsley Matthews of the European office of Dorothy Draper, will visit the Robert Allen/Beacon Hill showroom where he'll sign copies of his new book, "Houses In My Heart: An International Decorator's Colorful Journey," amidst the Dorothy Draper Collection of furniture by Kindel Furniture Co.
The day's festivities also will include showroom specials and hospitality.
Reservations are requested and can be made by e-mailing LVDC@LVDesignCenter.com or calling 599-3093.
