Choirs to perform at Walker Furniture
Walker Furniture will host performances by various high school choirs from throughout Clark County School District at its store today and Sunday.
Basic High School students will perform today from noon to 2 p.m., while Arbor View High School's choir will begin singing at 3 p.m. and continue until 5 p.m. The choir from Las Vegas Academy will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The performances are free and open to the public.
Additionally, Walker Furniture has made a donation to each of the schools that performed.
The choir performances are being held in conjunction with the retailer's 14th annual Home for the Holidays program, which provides a house full of new furniture for families in need. This year, 36 families will be assisted.
The store is located at 301 S. Martin Luther King Blvd. For more information, call Walker at 384-9300.
'My America' design contest under way
SIGG Switzerland, a leader in premium reusable water bottles, is reaching out to designers from coast to coast to help design a United States-inspired, limited edition collection of SIGG bottles that will be distributed globally in 2009.
"My America" is a design contest that enables designers to present their perspective of American imagery and ideals.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for an up-and-coming designer to show the world their personal interpretation of what they value about America," said Steve Wasik, president of SIGG USA.
Contestants are encouraged to work creatively to design bottles that speak to an international audience -- beyond the stereotypical banner of red, white and blue.
The top 20 designs will pass to a final round of judging in Switzerland and the final six designs will be chosen for SIGG's "My America" collection. Each of the final winners will receive 100 bottles of his or her own design for their friends and family. In addition, one grand prize winner will receive an additional cash prize of $1,000.
Submissions must be made by Jan. 19, 2008; guidelines along with rules, regulations and an easy-to-use design template are available on SIGG's Web site at www.mysigg.com.
The 2009 collection follows the popularity of a Japanese design contest inspiring a limited edition collection to be released in the summer.
