Writers weigh in on water conservation

According to a recent survey conducted by the Garden Writers Association of America, a group that comprises more than 1,800 professional communicators in the lawn and garden industry, about one-third or 31 percent of American households said they had no plans to reduce their water use this year despite the ongoing drought in many parts of the country.

When asked which activities they enjoy in their gardens, 48 percent responded they use the space for relaxation or a spiritual retreat, 28 percent said they planned to use their garden for food production, while 26 percent said their garden is used as a children's play area.

Almost half of American households, or 48 percent, do some form of container gardening.

The Garden Writers Association of America provides leadership, education, recognition, career development and a forum for interactions for professionals in the field of garden communication.
