OK to water daily during certain hours

The Southern Nevada Water Authority reminds Las Vegas Valley residents that the summer irrigation schedule is now in effect.

While daily watering is now permitted through Aug. 31 in all water groups, it is prohibited to use sprinklers from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Drip irrigation may occur at any time of day.

During the hottest hours of the day, water is often lost to evaporation from the heat and high winds. Watering during restricted hours is considered water waste and may result in a water waste fee on your bill.

Why did my desert spoon suddenly turn brown?

Desert landscapes need additional deep watering only three or four times each year. Give them deep watering when the air temperatures get hot — don’t wait.

Cactuses can vary in heat tolerance, need more shade

Keep in mind that all cactuses are not the same. Some are from different places (your exotic varieties) while others are from the Southwest.
