Natural Carpet unveils Thomas collection
May 10, 2008 - 9:00 pm
The Natural Carpet Co. has teamed with Roger Thomas to create a new line of woven materials. The Roger Thomas Collection makes its debut next week at the Hospitality Design Expo at the Sands Expo & Convention Center.
Thomas, executive vice president of design for Wynn Design and Development, said he was able to indulge his love for the fiber arts when creating the collection. Done in silk, wool, abaca and raffia, it includes hand-knotted Tibetan carpets and rugs, hand-woven natural fiber carpets and rugs, and jacquard machine-woven abaca carpets, rugs, wall coverings and ceiling coverings.
"My designs for this collection are based on inspirations from my travels which focus on the experience of art, architecture and decorative arts throughout the world and on the exploration of the history and circumstance of their creation," Thomas said. "These are my passions and the designs have been named for these favorite places and things."
A weaver himself, Thomas possesses extensive knowledge of textile construction and lends his creativity to the specialized weavings The Natural Carpet Co. is known for. He has worked with the company for more than 15 years creating carpets, rugs, wall and ceiling coverings for Wynn hotels and casinos.
Thomas said it was the company's proven success as a high-performance supplier, delivering what they promise on time, in budget and often under demanding circumstances that led to the collaborative effort.
"The opportunity to work with Roger Thomas is an absolute honor," said Norman Marks, president of The Natural Carpet Co. "Our collaboration is an on-going process and the collection will continue to grow as it evolves and expands.
"Roger's unique collections of abaca carpets, rugs, wall and ceiling coverings truly exemplify timeless elegance."
The Natural Carpet Co. began in 1989 as The Intex Group, an importer and distributor of floor coverings both natural and synthetic. In the early 1990s, the company began producing natural abaca carpets and rugs, and in 1998 Marks decided to focus on natural materials that were sustainable, renewable and biodegradable and formed The Natural Carpet Co.
Products offered by the manufacturer are Carpet & Rug Institute-certified green label plus.
