For those of us who live in Las Vegas, we know that we are a city of contradictions and misconceptions. When the city is mentioned in the national press, it is usually more negative than positive; we are known for a lot of things, but never the artistic talent that resides in this city.
DEAR HELOISE: What do you suggest for cleaning the inside of a dishwasher? — A reader, via e-mail
There’s just no denying the fact that we live in the Mojave Desert — especially during the summer when the temperature is in triple digits on a daily basis.
: I drink a lot of tea and would like to install an instant hot water faucet. I have a cap covering a hole in my kitchen sink, so it should fit nicely there. How do I install it?
Many different drapery fabrics and bed coverings were decorated with pictures of the famous men of the day. Some were made for political campaigns.
: My nectarines are ripe and they are falling off the tree. They are juicy but not as sweet as they should be. There is a tinge of unripeness on the palette. What can I do?
: I bought a Mission cactus last year. The tag said to water it well until it “was established,” but I didn’t really know how much water to give it after that. I looked up Mission cactus on the Internet and most sites said little or no water, or arid dry. It has grown quite a bit since I planted it, and even now has small new growth on a few ends. Lately though it has twists and folds with a yellowish color in the middle of the “hands.” I have no idea whether I am watering it enough or too much as it doesn’t respond much differently. I really like this plant, and it is a focal point when anyone comes through our gate into the courtyard.

DEAR HELOISE: We have decided to remodel our home, with the bathroom being the first room. To save money, my wife and I wanted to do as much of the work as we could. We installed new cabinets and a new sink.
DEAR DEBBIE: We have a coffered ceiling in our bedroom. The coffer and the main ceiling are painted white. I’d like to add molding, but I don’t know where it would look best or what color it should be in relation to the ceiling. I’d also like to paint the coffer a different shade than the ceiling. Please advise. Thank you. — Barbara
