Sometimes even a designer with a track record like mine needs to be brought up to speed, which is what happened recently during the remodeling of a client’s adjoining dining room and kitchen. The turkey has been roasted and you have been stuffed. Thanksgiving is over and now it’s time to prepare for the holiday season.
: I happened to notice the leaves on my apricot tree were shiny. A closer look showed that they are full of what appears to be aphids or some similar bug. My question is since the leaves will fall soon anyway should I bother spraying for them. Enclosed are a few photographs. I hope they are clear enough to recognize.
It’s fall, that time of year when young adults leave the nest for college or university. It’s also a time when younger siblings who have long eyed their older sibling’s bedroom can claim that space for their own.
The first kitchen was probably nothing more than a fire pit created by our ancient brothers and sisters who gathered around it while feasting on freshly caught woolly mammoth or saber-toothed cat. Today’s kitchens are much more sophisticated, with over-the-top designs that include sleek appliances, furniturelike cabinetry and natural stone countertops. So instead of woolly mammoth and saber-toothed cat on a stick, dinner is more likely ostrich burgers and domestic grown filet of alligator prepared on the indoor grill.
: One of my neighbors recently moved and, as a parting gift, he gave me an airless paint sprayer. I want to paint my living room. I have never used a paint sprayer before, but he did give me the manual. Is spraying paint easier than using a brush and roller?
When it comes to green living, there are many shades. The lightest shade is “greenwashing” which surprisingly, isn’t really green at all (all talk, no action). On the other end of the spectrum, the deepest shades of green represent a restorative path that helps to actually reverse environmental damage and enhance the human experience.
