Simmons zips into comfort, sustainability

Simmons Hospitality Group has introduced a unique zip-off mattress top that allows hotel operators to refresh the comfort level of their beds in an instant and help the environment at the same time.

The new EverNU mattress top helps hotels get the most use out of their Beautyrest or Beautyrest Black mattresses by enabling them to replace only the uppermost comfort levels, said Steve Tipton, vice president of the Simmons Hospitality Group. Most hotel bed replacements occur because the mattresses' comfort layers have compressed over time, causing the beds to lose their original feel.

"On average, hotels replace a mattress every seven years," he said.

The mattress top was one of three new bedding products introduced to the industry at the recent hospitality and design expo in Las Vegas. Also debuting were the manufacturer's ultraluxurious Beautyrest Black and the Natural Care latex lines.

"Hotel guests increasingly are becoming interested in luxury-oriented and environmentally friendly properties, and Simmons is launching our Beautyrest Black and Natural Care bedding lines to cater to these growing trends," Tipton said. "Plus, we developed our new zip-off EverNU mattress top so hotels can refresh their mattresses simply by replacing their beds' top upholstery layers. Since hotels constantly struggle with maintaining the comfort of their beds through years of guest use, we feel that this innovation offers an answer to an industry-wide problem."

Tipton said the EverNU mattress allows hotels to keep the main part of their mattresses for twice as long, thereby reducing costs as well as creating less waste for area landfills. Additionally, Simmons will provide hotels with a process to recycle the removable tops.

EverNU also allows hotel operators to more easily customize the sleeping experience for each guest. With a zip-off top, various levels of comfort can be interchanged on the same mattress base.

"It eliminates having to have mattresses stored in a back room, and hotels never have to lose revenue because a room is out of service," Tipton said.

The lighter tops also lessen staff's work load by eliminating the need to flip mattresses over and could reduce workers' compensation issues, he added.

For the past year and a half, a hotel has been testing the line and was extremely happy with the results, Tipton said.

The Beautyrest Black collection includes all of the motion separation and conformability elements for which the Beautyrest mattress line is renowned and places them in a luxury edition. The line features Advanced Pocketed Coil technology for enhanced durability and opulent components like natural modal yarn to pamper and indulge guests.

Natural Care bedding helps to create a natural sleep environment that serves as a retreat for the body every night. The mattress' soft, supportive natural latex surface provides lift in all the right places and helps eliminate pressure points across the entire body. In addition to its comfort and support benefits, natural latex is an extremely resilient material that is naturally anti-microbial, hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, mold and mildew.

Based in Atlanta, Simmons Co. is one of the world's largest mattress manufacturers and serves as a key supplier of beds to many leading hotel groups and resort properties.
