Fishing Report, May 17

■ LAKE MEAD - Anglers are catching everything from catfish to striped bass and largemouth bass to smallies. Most striped bass action is being provided by fish on the small side, about 1½ to 3 pounds. Anglers in the Overton Arm and Temple Bar areas are catching large numbers of fish, while fishing remains sluggish in the Hemenway area. Trolling and still-fishing with cut bait have been productive for stripers, while crank baits, Rat-L-Traps and plastics are catching all three of the lake's bass species.

■ LAKE MOHAVE - Hot temperatures and blue skies have sent the big stripers at Willow Beach into deeper water. Action has slowed overall, though anglers still are catching a few fish in the 10-plus-pound range while throwing or trolling large trout imitations. Trout anglers generally will find good fishing for stocked rainbows following the weekly plants. Farther south, anglers are finding stripers from Cottonwood Cove south to the dam. Catfish action also is picking up in the coves and off points.

■ LAUGHLIN - Anglers working deep holes continue to catch rainbow trout from Davis Camp south through Casino Row. Action for striped bass and catfish is improving.

■ URBAN PONDS - The Nevada Department of Wildlife released catfish this week in ponds at Floyd Lamb, Sunset and Veterans Memorial parks. Hafen Park in Mesquite also received fish. Catfish generally bite best when baits are fished on the bottom. Sliced hot dogs, chicken liver, night crawlers and commercial stink baits are good choices for the whisker fish. Bluegill are biting mealworms. Anglers practicing catch-and-release are encouraged to use single, barbless hooks. Limit is three fish.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA - Trout action is beginning to slow, but anglers still are catching fish. Recent NDOW surveys found a healthy population of plump rainbows and fat largemouth bass. Bass fishing is good but not real hot. Seasonal weed growth remains minimal.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR - Stocked rainbow trout and tiger trout continue to provide action for anglers at the Lincoln County reservoir. Effective baits include spinners, lures, flies, night crawlers and PowerBait. Tigers have been hitting gold and silver lures. Brown trout and largemouth bass also are bending rods, but the action isn't fast.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR - Crappie have been hitting small jigs fished below a bobber, while PowerBait, night crawlers, flies and spinners have been catching rainbow trout. Largemouth bass should be coming on.
