Fishing Report, Sept. 27
September 27, 2012 - 1:04 am
■ LAKE MEAD - Good weekend out at the lake. Guides report bringing in 50 to 60 striped bass a day. Late-morning boils still are giving fishermen ample opportunity to get into top-water action for stripers. Gizzard shad lures and jumping minnows have proven successful. Catfish are hitting on anchovies and other cut baits.
■ LAKE MOHAVE - Out of Katherine Landing, striper action has been good for anglers working top-water lures around the points. Those fishing for catfish have been successful using anchovies at night. Trout fishing has been great at Willow Beach. Spinners and PowerBait have been productive for shoreline anglers. Unconfirmed reports say that a few lucky anglers caught a handful of lunker rainbows ranging from 8 to 13 pounds near mile marker 50 while using AC Plugs.
■ URBAN PONDS - Catfish success rates should improve this week following the catfish plant scheduled for the end of the week. Good bait choices are hot dogs, chicken gizzards and night crawlers. For catfish, the smellier the bait, the better.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA - Windy and rainy weather has kept most folks off the reservoirs, but those venturing out have found success for small bass on Cold Springs and rainbow trout on Haymeadow. Water temperatures have dropped to the low 60s.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR - Cooler temperatures have knocked down the weeds in the lake, and trout continue to bite on PowerBait and night crawlers. The Nevada Department of Wildlife and the Division of State Parks are working together to install new aerators in this reservoir. This will improve the overall health of this popular fishery.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR - Though water temperatures have been falling, bass and crappie still are taking night crawlers and lures. Rainbow trout action has picked up for anglers using worms or small spinners.
