Glitch delays check-in for Southwest Airlines flights

Southwest Airlines passengers should expect long lines after the company encountered technical problems Sunday morning, officials at McCarran International Airport said.

Passengers were being checked in manually and Southwest advised them to arrive at least two hours prior to their flight to minimize delay, the airline said.

The airline posted on Twitter about the problem shortly after 7 a.m.

About 8:30 a.m., McCarran sent out a Tweet that said the problem was fixed, but there were delayed check-ins, which were cause for long lines.

In a statement on their website, the airline said: "We’re experiencing technology delays on southwest.com, the Southwest Mobile app, and in reservations centers and airports systemwide today which are impacting future bookings and are requiring us to follow manual procedures with Customers as they arrive for travel.

"We’re asking Customers to arrive at least two hours prior to their scheduled departures to help minimize delays."

The airline previously had stated that fewer than 100 of the 3,600 flights scheduled to operate on Sunday had been affected by delays.

As of 9:30 a.m., McCarran was showing six scheduled departures for Southwest running late.

Southwest has an average 205 daily departures from McCarran, but many of those don't operate on Sundays.
