WITNESS DETAILS OF TRAGIC VOYAGE

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition" at the Tropicana gives history buffs a chance to envision the tragedy through a three-dimensional exhibit featuring hundreds of artifacts and models of parts of the ship.

There's a full-scale replica of the Grand staircase that descended into the ship's dining area; the outer Promenade deck features a temperature drop that emulates the weather of the night of the disaster, April 14, 1912.

The exhibition also features a re-creation of the third-class hallway. Most of the Titanic's victims were third-class passengers.

Guests can take an audio tour of the galleries, which are arranged chronologically and encompass everything about the Titanic, from its beginnings in the construction yard to the maiden voyage that began April 10, 1912, from Southampton, England, to its sinking. Modern-day recovery efforts also are detailed.

More than 300 artifacts are displayed, including the clarinet played by a member of the orchestra, as the ship sank; passengers' jewelry; silverware and dishes from first, second and third class; paper money and more.

The exhibit is open daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. with the last admission at 10 p.m.

Tickets are $20 general admission; $18 for seniors 62 and older; $17 for Nevada residents; and $13 for children ages 4 to 11. Call 739-2411 for more information.
