Updated May 28, 2022 - 11:28 pm

A dirt bike rider died in a Saturday afternoon collision with an SUV in northwest Las Vegas.

In a preliminary crash report, investigators said the dirt bike rider was northbound on Sky Canyon Park Drive about 3:10 p.m. and failed to stop for a red light for a traffic signal at Iron Mountain Road. The dirt bike ran into the left front of a turning Cadillac XTS.

The rider, believed to be 16, was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Cadillac suffered minor injuries while a passenger was uninjured.

A news release said the motorcycle rider’s death was the 61st traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction this year.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the name of the rider after relatives have been notified.
