One person was killed in a Saturday morning traffic crash in the southeastern valley.

Metropolitan Police Department patrol officers responded about 10:55 a.m. to the intersection of Vista Flora Way and South Nellis Boulevard, near East Desert Inn Road, for reports of a crash involving two vehicles.

In a statement, Metro said a 2017 Jeep Patriot was heading southbound on Nellis Boulevard. approaching Vista Flora Way. A 1998 Nissan Sentra, driven by an 86-year-old man, turned left from eastbound Vista Flora while failing to yield the right of way at a stop sign, the statement said.

The Jeep hit the Sentra as a result, and the Sentra driver was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.

The 20-year-old Jeep driver stayed at the scene and didn’t appear impaired.

Nellis was temporarily closed between Twain Avenue and Desert Inn. The road has since reopened.

The man’s death marked the 111th traffic death investigated by Metro this year. The Clark County coroner’s office will identify him once his next of kin is notified.
