Motorcyclist dies in crash with truck in east Las Vegas

Updated June 5, 2018 - 3:36 am

A man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pickup Monday night in the east valley, Las Vegas police said.

Police were called at 9:32 p.m. to the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Sun Valley Drive, near Tropicana Avenue, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon said.

Sgt. Robert Stauffer of Metro’s fatal crash detail said a Toyota Tacoma was stopped at the intersection when the motorcycle crashed into the back of it. The rider, a 34-year-old man, died at the scene.

It’s unclear if the man was wearing a helmet, Stauffer said. As of 11:30 p.m. police had not yet found a helmet at the crash site.

The driver of the pickup and two children, a 7-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl, were hospitalized with minor injuries after the crash.

Speed was likely a factor in the crash, Stauffer said. The man’s death marks the 57th traffic fatality Metro has investigated this year.

Police blocked off Nellis at the intersection for the investigation. Stauffer said at 11:30 p.m. the intersection would likely be closed for at least two more hours.
