4 seek vacant Clark County School Board seat

Four applicants, including a member of the Nevada State Board of Education, are vying for the open seat on the Clark County School Board.

The Clark County School District has received applications from William Lucas, Tara Raines, Charles Ware, and State Board of Education member Stavan Corbett to replace former School Board member Lorraine Alderman, who was elected to a four-year term in 2010.

One of seven board members, Alderman represented south-central Las Vegas but abruptly resigned with six days’ notice in October. The School Board, overseeing the nation’s fifth-largest school district with 315,000 students, will interview the four candidates in a public meeting at 1 p.m. on Dec. 5.
