Application deadline looms for aid to boost college accounts

CARSON CITY - The deadline is nearing for qualified Nevadans to apply for grant assistance to boost college savings accounts.

State Treasurer Kate Marshall says open enrollment for the Silver State Matching Grant Program ends June 30.

The program is available to Nevada families who have a SSgA Upromise 529 college savings account.

The maximum annual grant is $300 and there is a lifetime maximum grant of $1,500.

To be eligible, both the account owner and the beneficiary must be Nevada residents, and the beneficiary must be 13 years old or younger when the first matching grant is approved.

Additionally, the applicant's adjusted household income in the previous year cannot exceed $61,950.
