CIMARRON-MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL GIVES THANKSGIVING MEALS TO LOCAL FAMILIES

Cimarron-Memorial High School, 2301 N. Tenaya Way, hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for hundreds of families from about 30 nearby schools for the second year in a row. Clark County School District employees worked on the holiday to serve meals from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the school's cafeteria. The school also hosted activities and games for kids.

ADELSON EDUCATIONAL CAMPUS HONORS HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR

The Dr. Miriam & Sheldon G. Adelson Educational Campus, 9700 W. Hillpointe Road, honored Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel at the eighth annual In Pursuit of Excellence Gala Nov. 17 at The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Wiesel was awarded the Pursuit of Excellence Award for leadership in education and human rights activism.

The In Pursuit of Excellence Gala raised more than $600,000 to benefit the school's scholarship program for the 2013-14 school year. For more information, visit adelsoncampus.org.

LOCAL CLUB OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SINGLE MOTHERS

The Soroptimist International of Sierra Nevada Region's District I club is accepting applications for financial assistance for single mothers interested in attaining higher education or training. The club will donate two $1,000 Women's Opportunity Awards and one $500 award. First-place recipients will become eligible for a $10,000 finalist award. The club is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas, which supports community-based projects for women.

LOCAL NONPROFIT HOSTS SUPPLIES DRIVE

Nonprofit Project 150, which helps homeless students, is hosting a supplies drive through December. To donate, visit project150lv.org or any Harmony Homes sales office to drop off a donation.

The drive will provide food, clothing and shelter for students in time for the holidays. The organization was founded a year ago and has served nearly 1,000 homeless teens at 15 local high schools.

EXCHANGE STUDENT PROGRAM SEEKS LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES

World Heritage, a nonprofit student exchange program, is seeking volunteers to serve as area representatives. World Heritage offers qualified students from around the world between 15 and 18 the opportunity to spend a high school semester in the United States with a host family. Area representatives recruit and screen potential host families, supervise the exchange students in the community, organize activities with the students throughout the year and provide support to host families, students and schools.

LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DONATES THANKSGIVING BASKETS

Lake Elementary School, 2904 Meteoro St., and its partner, Southwest Airlines, donated 55 Thanksgiving baskets to school families Nov. 20. Each basket contained a turkey, potatoes, a pie, stuffing, cranberries and more.

LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS DONATE THANKSGIVING BASKETS

Liberty High School, 3700 Liberty Heights Ave., donated baskets with Thanksgiving supplies to several of the school's families Nov. 20. The baskets were purchased and arranged by Liberty's Student Council, led by advisers Jordan Ballard and Jeremy Perkowski.

NEVADA STATE BANK COLLECTING CLOTHES FOR STUDENTS

Nevada State Bank, 3480 W. Sahara Ave. is collecting clothes through Dec. 17 for the Professional Dress Closet at Foothill High School, 800 College Drive. The closet provides students with clothing for job interviews. Recommended donations include men's and women's suits, jackets, shirts, blouses, dress pants, skirts, ties, shoes and business accessories.

Nevada State Bank has partnered with Foothill for 11 years on various programs.

LAS VEGAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS VOLUNTEER AT LOCAL NONPROFITS

More than 130 students at Las Vegas High School, 6500 E. Sahara Ave., participated in the 14th annual Be a PAL Community Service Day Nov. 20, sponsored by Partnership at Las Vegas program. Students split up to volunteer at 17 nonprofit organizations for the day.

The PAL program at LVHS pairs students with public and private sector job sites to complete semester-long unpaid internships.

HARMON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DONATES TO HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF EFFORTS

Students at Harmon Elementary School, 5351 S. Hillsboro Lane, raised $633 in a November penny drive that was donated to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
