CLARK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ACCEPTING MAGNET SCHOOL APPLICATIONS

Applications to enroll at the Clark County School District's magnet and career and technical academy campuses are due Feb. 4.

The district has six elementary schools, six middle schools and 13 high schools with magnet and CTA programs.

FAMILY MUSIC CENTER TO HOST PAGEANT FOR GIRLS WITH DISABILITIES

The Twinkle Toez Foundation's second annual Miss Twinkle Toez Pageant is scheduled for 4 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Family Music Center, 8125 W. Sahara Ave.

The nonprofit organization provides art scholarships to students with disabilities.

The pageant is open to girls 6 or older with physical or mental disabilities. All contestants will receive a crown, a sash and other prizes.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 or younger. Infants 3 or younger are admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door the day of the event.

NV ENERGY TO HOST FREE SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOP JAN. 26

NV Energy, 6226 W. Sahara Ave., plans to host a free workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 26 to teach high school students how to apply for college scholarships, including NV Energy's Powerful Partnerships Scholarship Program.

The Public Education Foundation is co-sponsoring the workshop.

CLARK COUNTY ACCEPTING SUMMER BUSINESS INSTITUTE APPLICATIONS

Clark County's 2013 Summer Business Institute is accepting applications through Feb. 1.

The summer job program is for current high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. This is the 17th year for the program, which selects teenagers for employment opportunities in fields such as law, medicine, architecture, education and communications.

Program applications are available at clarkcountynv.gov and on the County human resources department web pages. Students requiring assistance to complete the application online can contact their local high school job bank office or the Human Resources Department at 702-455-4565.

VEGAS PBS WRITING CONTEST OPEN TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Clark County students in kindergarten through fifth grade can submit their original stories and illustrations as part of Vegas PBS' annual PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest. The top submissions will win free enrollment in the 2013 Southern Nevada Writing Project Summer Camp, be published in Vegas PBS Source magazine and receive other prizes. Local winners will also be entered into a national contest. The local contest is sponsored by Easy Student Publishing and the Southern Nevada Writing Project.
