BUY GROCERIES, HELP STUDENTS

Whole Foods Market, 8855 W. Charleston Blvd., plans to donate 5 percent of its net sales April 24 to the Public Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports public schools in Clark County. Representatives from the PEF plan to be at the store to provide more information.

UNLV STUDENTS COMPETE FOR $25,000

Four student groups from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas are scheduled to compete today in Reno in the Donald W. Reynolds Governor's Cup Collegiate Business Plan Competition. The statewide contest encourages students to create plans for innovative businesses.

Of 68 teams that entered from public and private colleges and universities, 12 were selected as finalists. First-, second- and third-place winners are to be announced Wednesday in graduate and undergraduate categories. First- and second-place winners will receive $25,000 and $15,000, respectively. Those teams also will compete in May against students from Arkansas and Oklahoma.

UNLV HOSTS WORKSHOPS TO HELP SMALL-BUSINESS OWNERS

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas has workshops scheduled to help teach small-business owners what resources are available at University of Nevada, Las Vegas libraries and how to use them effectively.

The Business by the Book workshop series is a four-part program that started April 11. The first workshop was Demystifying Your Customer: Market Research Made Easy. Future workshops are Getting to Know Your Customer, scheduled for June 13; Marketing Resources Revealed, scheduled for Aug. 15; and Social Media Socialized, scheduled for Oct. 10.

SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOP AVAILABLE ONLINE

The Cultural Diversity Foundation is offering an online scholarship workshop class through December for students in high school and college. The class is $25 or $50, depending on income. To register, visit cdfnv.org/onlineworkshops.

The class includes information about searching for scholarships online, applying for merit scholarship awards, essay writing and more.

LAS VEGAS ACADEMY TO HOST COLLEGE FAIR

Las Vegas Academy, 315 S. Seventh St., plans to host the free Western Association for College Admission Counseling's Las Vegas College Fair from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday. To register, visit wacaccollegefair.com or email jsdiamond@interact.ccsd.net.

Representatives from more than 150 college and universities will be at the event, which will include workshops, testing information and a counselor help booth.

The fair is free and open to all students in public and private schools.

NEVADA PTA TO HOST ANNUAL CONVENTION

The Nevada PTA's 72nd annual convention is scheduled from April 26-28 at Texas Station, 2101 Texas Star Lane in North Las Vegas. Any local PTA members are welcome to attend the workshops, presentations and banquet, and vote on Nevada PTA bylaws and amendments.

MCWILLIAMS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS GET NEW SHOES

Nearly 400 students at McWilliams Elementary School, 1315 Hiawatha Road, received new shoes from the law firm Holland & Hart.

The nonprofit group Shoes That Fit provided sizing for 384 kids to the firm. Attorneys and staff members delivered the shoes last week. This is the fourth year that the firm has donated shoes to McWilliams.

DARNELL ELEMENTARY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN

Darnell Elementary School, 9480 W. Tropical Parkway, is accepting applications for its full-day, tuition-based kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year. The full-day program is set to run from 9 a.m. to 3:21 p.m. Monday through Friday and costs $375 per month. Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 30.

Scott Elementary School, 5700 N. Bruce St., is accepting applications for its full-day, tuition-based kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year. The program runs Monday through Friday and costs $375 per month. A $100 non-refundable payment by cashier's check or money order is required. Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 30.

FASHION EVENT TO BENEFIT COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF NEVADA

Couture for Causes has scheduled a fashion presentation from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the home of Bree and Jason Goldwater, 1403 Westwood Drive, to benefit Communities in Schools of Nevada. The event will include tastings and live entertainment.

Couture for Causes, created by the Goldwaters in 2008, originally was designed as an opportunity for their friends and colleagues to donate designer clothing to be resold at a family event while raising money for a local organization. This year's festivities will include live entertainment from Wynn Las Vegas' "Le Reve" and the Nevada Ballet Theatre. Activities for children, beverages and food also are planned.

MEDICAL SKILLS FOR LIFE INSTITUTE GIVING DISCOUNTS ON TUITION
