KIDS CAN LEARN GARDENING AT WEEKLY CLASSES

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is offering an eight-week Junior Master Gardener program for children 7 to 12. They will experience hands-on gardening activities and learn about plants, soil, vegetables and more.

Classes are scheduled from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road, and Saturdays at the Master Gardener Orchard, 4600 Horse Drive in North Las Vegas, through July.

STUDENTS RECEIVE DISCOUNTS TO EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS

Students will receive a 30 percent discount throughout summer to "BODIES... The Exhibition" and "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition," both at the Luxor, 3900 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Tickets are available at the box office on the atrium level of the casino. Regularly priced tickets are $24 for children, $32 for adults and $30 for seniors.

NV ENERGY AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO 95 HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

NV Energy donated $1,000 scholarships to 95 seniors in the Clark County School District.

The one-time scholarships were awarded based on academics, leadership and community service. NV Energy has given out more than 500 scholarships since 2000.

FREE RESUME PRINTING OFFERED FOR NEW COLLEGE GRADUATES

Cartridge World, 3655 S. Rainbow Blvd., will offer free resume printing for recent college graduates. An ink and toner refilling retailer, Cartridge World will print 15 to 25 copies of a single-color resume with a two-page maximum.

Resumes should be brought to the store on a USB drive with proof of graduation within the past month.

SMITH'S GROCERY STORES DONATE $10,000 TO LOCAL STUDENTS

Smith's grocery stores donated five $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors in the Clark County School District through the Public Education Foundation.

Recipients were Rylea Driscoll of Legacy High School; Chase Christensen of Durango High School; Dominique Quattrini of Virtual High School; Brandon Lyon of Green Valley High School; and Amanda Waite of Northwest Career and Technical Academy.

Students who applied for the Personal Best Scholarship had to demonstrate a commitment to overcoming adversity and a passion for higher education. Smith's has donated more than 90 scholarships since 1994.

COX BROADCASTING GRADUATIONS FOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS

Cox Communications plans to broadcast local high school graduation ceremonies through June 24.

The broadcasts, originating from The Orleans Arena and the Thomas & Mack Center, are to be available on Cox channel 96 or online at cox96.net. Graduation ceremonies not held at those venues will not be broadcast.

Summerlin graduations scheduled to air are: Cimarron-Memorial at 3 p.m. Thursday and Palo Verde at 3 p.m. June 22.

Henderson graduations scheduled to air are: Basic at noon today; College of Southern Nevada South at 3 p.m. Wednesday; Liberty at 6 p.m. June 21; Green Valley at noon June 23; and Coronado at 9 a.m. June 24.

Southwest-area graduations scheduled to air are: Southwest Career and Technical Academy at 3 p.m. today; Desert Oasis at 9 a.m. Wednesday; College of Southern Nevada West at 3 p.m. Wednesday; Spring Valley at 3 p.m. Friday; Sierra Vista at 3 p.m. Monday; and Clark at noon June 20.

CRESTWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S SPENDING EARNS $11,000

Crestwood Elementary School, 1300 Pauline Way, received $11,000 May 31 from the Meadows Mall as the winner of its My School's Cool program. Teachers, parents and others earned points for the school by shopping at the mall since November and submitting receipts.

Griffith Elementary School, 324 Essex Drive, received $5,000; Carson Elementary School, 1735 D St., received $2,500; and Bridger Middle School, 2505 N. Bruce St., received $1,500.

DAY CAMP TO FOCUS ON MATH, SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension plans to host a science, technology, engineering and math day camp June 19-21 at its Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road.

The camp is open to children 9 to 13. The cost is $90 and $60 for sibling registration, with lunch and activities included.

UNLV GRADUATE STUDENTS SWEEP BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION

Students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas swept the graduate division of the Tri-State Reynolds Cup, a business plan competition that included collegiate teams from Arkansas and Oklahoma, May 23.

The team representing Geyser Flow Control, a water-saving device for sprinklers, won first place and $30,000. MASH Tool USA, a landscaping tool, won $25,000 for second place. It was the first time a UNLV team won the graduate division since it began in 2008.

UNLV is proposing to enter into a 99-year ground lease for 42 acres of university-owned land near the Strip that would generate over a billion of dollars of revenue.
