Nick Hess is scheduled to graduate from Army basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., Friday.

Hess plans to graduate as an infantryman and go to airborne school and then ranger school.

A 2011 graduate of Spring Valley High School, he is the son of Rick and Rita Hess and brother of Josh Hess, all of Las Vegas.

Jason Webb has returned home after graduating from Army basic training at Fort Sill in Oklahoma on Jan. 26 and graduating from the Bravo 169th Engineering Battallion on March 23.

Webb is a member of the 240th Nevada Army National Guard.

A 2004 graduate of Palo Verde High School, Webb is the son of Chip and Tammy Webb and husband of Christina Webb, all of Las Vegas.

Scott Keirn, 13, has become a member of Oasis Chapter Order of DeMolay, an international organization for young men ages 12 to 21 to learn leadership skills.

A student at Schofield Middle School, Scott is the son of Richard Keirn of Henderson.

Megan Walters has won first place and a $1,500 scholarship from the Nevada Security Association, a statewide trade association composed of life-safety, surveillance and intrusion alarm companies and operators.

The scholarship is awarded to children of Clark County police and firefighters and is judged on academics, extracurricular activities, community service and an essay about their parent.

Walters, a senior at Palo Verde High School, is the daughter of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officer Craig Walters.

She will compete for one of two national college scholarships.

McKenna Murray has won second place and a $1,000 scholarship from the Nevada Security Association, a statewide trade association composed of life-safety, surveillance and intrusion alarm companies and operators.

The scholarship is awarded to children of Clark County police and firefighters and is judged on academics, extracurricular activities, community service and an essay about their parent.

Murray, a senior at Advanced Technologies Academy, is the daughter of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue firefighter Jeffrey Murray.

Radelle Aguilar has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

A 2005 graduate of Sierra Vista High School, Aguilar is the daughter of Ramon Aguilar of Las Vegas.

Glenn Pilarowski II has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

A 1996 graduate of Silverado High School, he is the son-in-law of Bill Jean of Henderson.

Pilarowski earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2003.

Jordan Orris of Henderson has been named Distinguished Young Woman of Nevada and awarded a $500 scholarship by the Distinguished Young Women National Scholarship Program.

Participants were evaluated in the categories of scholastics, interview, fitness, self-expression and talent.

Orris has earned the gold, silver and bronze awards from the Girl Scouts of America. She also is a National Forensic League Academic All-American, earned placement on the National AP Scholar-College Board and was in the 95th percentile nationally on the PSAT test.

Orris, a senior at Green Valley High School, is the daughter of Chuck and Valerie Orris.

She will next compete in the national finals June 28-30 in Mobile, Ala.

Oscar Espinosa Rossano has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

A 2010 graduate of Canyon Springs High School, Espinosa Rossano is the son of Alejandro Espinosa of North Las Vegas.

Julia Barker of Las Vegas was honored during the University of Kansas Women's Recognition Program, held April 3 at the Kansas Union in Lawrence, Kan.

She was named Outstanding Student on Campus Housing.

Barker, a graduate of Faith Lutheran Jr/Sr High School, is a freshman at the university, studying psychology.

Cristofer Cockrell of Henderson has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2011 semester at Biola University in La Mirada, Calif.

Jeffery Maung has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Maung is the son of Rina Teo of Las Vegas.
